ThriveMore is excited to announce that Carmen Canales has been selected to serve as Chief Human Resources Officer for the organization, effective July 25, 2024.

Carmen has deep and diverse human resources experience, and previously served as the Chief Human Resources executive at Novant Health, Wake Forest University and the law firm previously known as Womble Carlyle. Earlier in her career, Carmen held human capital leadership roles at Wells Fargo and Pepsi-Cola.

Carmen is passionate about maximizing the potential of current and future talent by advising leaders on how to build a nimble and high-performing workforce. She is a speaker and consultant, with expertise in talent, resilience, inclusion, leadership, and culture. Her tremendous amount of talent and experience in human resources will strengthen ThriveMore’s ability to serve its colleagues, where she will focus on strategies to support and give direction to increase retention of team members.

Carmen is a graduate of Michigan State University, holding both a Master of Labor and Industrial Relations degree and BA in Journalism. She has broad board experience, having recently served as the Governor’s appointee to the Forsyth Technical Community College Board. She often is recognized for her contributions to the human resources profession. Carmen was named a Woman Worth Watching in the Profiles in Diversity Journal; an Al Día 2021 Woman of Merit; one of the Top 100 HR Professionals by the National Diversity Council; a Leader in Diversity by the Triad Business Journal; CHRO of the Year, Non-Profit by HRO Today; and Diversity MBA Top 25 Inclusive Leader. Outside of work, Carmen enjoys travel, including continuing to explore North Carolina.
